About
Kayla’s Craft Closet was created by Kayla Kupietzky, a young artist with a passion for making arts and crafts accessible for all young people, regardless of their socioeconomic status. She began this project to demonstrate that art can be a healthy outlet for emotional expression and self-care, and has brought arts-and-crafts resources into numerous schools, shelters, and resource centers that serve youth from disadvantaged backgrounds. She is now expanding her organization to the United States, after her initial partnership with AMIT, the #1 educational network in Israel, serving over 40,000 underserved children.
Kayla has a longstanding interest in visual art, having taken classes at the Art Institute of Chicago, and studied oil painting over a summer in New York City. She also sells beaded bracelets and donates 100% of the profits (over $1,000 so far) to the National Alliance for Mental Illness-Illinois, a non-profit organization dedicated to mental health care, education, and advocacy; you can view and purchase Kayla’s bracelets on Instagram at @kaylas_craft _closet.
Kayla hopes that this website will raise awareness of the transformative potential that art can have on young people’s wellbeing, inspire others to explore their creative side, and encourage donations that will directly fund the distribution of arts-and-crafts resources to organizations serving young people who most need an outlet for emotional and self-expression.
